S "art" urday

We made our 2nd (and thankfully successful) attempt at going to the Toledo Art Museum. This time, we did not get lost and had plenty of time to look around. :)

The entire museum is split between two different buildings. We started on the 1st floor of the main building, which had all the temporary exhibits. It included a really interesting animation section that featured artists whom have focused their careers on story books for kids. The most recognizable artist in that area was Dr. Suess. He showed sketches from his Cat In the Hat series. The other temporary exhibit featured Parisian art, which featured photography and sketches of Paris. Matt and I both were most impressed with a large book (I'm guessing about 3 feet tall) which has nothing but hand-drawn maps of Paris. Whoa, thankfully that artist didn't know that Google Maps was coming after his time. :)

We then ventured upstairs and saw paintings, sculptures, Christian art, Asian art, Egyptian art...you name it, and it was probably represented. The museum was so huge! We kept expecting it to end, only to discover a whole new section. Upstairs featured artists like Cézanne, Degas, van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Rembrandt...oh I can go on.

Remember, this is only the 1st building!

The 2nd building was amazing because it featured glass art. The building itself was art because the entire building was essentially made of glass. It was such a trip to walk around and then suddenly see a reflection of yourself. We even saw them setting up for a wedding - talk about a cool place to get married!

I wish I could have taken pictures, but it wasn't allowed in either building. Here is the website, if you want to learn more or see what the area looked like: http://www.toledomuseum.org/

Later that evening Matt and I were invited to go out for drinks with 1 of our new couple friends. I was beat, but Matt joined them for a couple hours. They went to a sports bar and he said he had a nice time. :)
