OHIO-I

YEAH!!!! I'm a little nervous to tell you all about his 1st day because I don't want to leave anything out...so I'll do my best.

Matt started at 8a and immediately met with his boss. Then between typical HR stuff and New Hire Orientation, it was time for lunch. Matt got a free lunch at the cafeteria and then a tour of the different buildings. Since Matt works at the world headquarters, there are 4 different buildings. Then after the tour, he was invited to partake in a teleconference to share his feedback on how the recruitment team can be more effective in the future. I thought that was pretty cool - they are already seeking his advice! ;)

I'm still not quite sure what he'll be doing, but here is what I know so far...

He'll be doing a lot of training in the lab so he can learn how everything is made. That will take at least 3 months and then he'll be able to start traveling to different sites. He's an Engineer for now and the company will begin to incorporate management into his training so when he is done with the program, he'll be equipped to be an Engineering Assistant Manager and will manage a facility (wherever that is!!)

He'll be getting medical, 401K, vacation days...you know, all those lovely perks we have not had in a VERY long time! :) They even had an entire training on all the social activities - how cool is that!?

When Matt came home, he had a huge recycling bin filled with stuff. He got a laptop, a bunch of reading materials and an official ID badge. He looked so happy when he walked through the door!

Later that evening, Matt took me for a tour. In his building, we got to see his desk, the training lab and the cafeteria. I happen to see one of the prices and you can get an omelet for $1.85!! We then went over to the other building where they had huge display cases of different glass bottles. This is where the CEO works and all the global employees. They even have an office just for the IRS. Whoa...this company means business! The building itself was very pretty. I was nervous to take too many pictures, but I'll get more as Matt is more comfortable with the surroundings.

I will say that is was so weird to see the other cubicles. Each seemed to have different glass bottles either on display or they were being worked on. I think this is the only company where you can have beer bottles just sitting on your desk and NOT get into trouble!

Hmm...I don't know what else to mention! He had a great day and is so excited to be working again. Oh yeah...I had a nice day, too. :)

  1. So, let me get this straight - Matt is looking through a glass darkly? Sorry, I just couldn't help myself; especially after that great title for today - Oh! Hi O-I, pretty sneaky :) :)
